Rare Song 38
Listen
thendralil Adai pinna
Movie: kaNNE pAppA
Music: MSV
Lyrics: Kannadhasan
In the movie, the heroine KR Vijaya falls in love
with the hero(?) Muthuraman and has a relationship
that leads to a child. Muthuraman runs away
after he knows this. The avails of the child forms the
main story.. a movie made for children. So, obviously, the
director did not want to talk in any detail about the Muthuraman-KRVijaya relationship.
So he presented that part in the heroine's flashback,
in a song. Kannadhasan's beautifully formed lyrics,
MSV's apt tune and PS' voice and singing elevate this
song to a great level. Here are the full details of the song...
She is living near Kutralam; one day, when she is bathing
in the falls, she notices that he is seeing her; she also falls
for
him...

temple; in his attraction she cannot
even hear the temple mELam sounds...

At the shop near the temple she is buying
bangles. The hero makes his move and grasps
her hands; instead of resisting his move, she only gets thrilled...

She buys a roll of flowers and hastily
walks off; the flower-roll falls from her hands; she bends to pick
it up, and finds him standing near it...

Ultimately she loses her body to him,
in a moment when she forgets the consequences. For
her he is the "only-one"; an assumed husband;
so he is her God...

dheivaththil naan iNaindhEn
The "good" part of the relationship
is over and now
the
heroine comes out of her flashback recalling the
mistake she did. Kannadhasan's lyrics are wonderful here...
sippiyil pani vizhundhu
muththuppOl vaLarndhadhammA
muththu nAn peRuvadhaRku
paththiram illaiyammA
vetkaththai maRandhadhanAl
achchaththil vizhundhadhammA
The first two lines above have been
borrowed by others like Vairamuthu
in later songs. The next two lines mention
the lack of proof for the child's father!
A truly wonderful song! Most people are only familiar with
the shortened version of the song which used to be played on
the Radio. Listen the longer version here.
