One rare song I got during my recent vist to India was 'unnai adaindha manam
vaazhga'. It was made for the movie Anandhi. But I never saw this song in
the movie in my young days nor is the song in the movie's vcd. Our enthusiastic
friend Karthi was the one who told me about that song. I got it recorded
by Mr. Alikhan at Chennai. (One misconception about the movie Anandhi that
many have is that its music was by Viswanathan-Ramamurthy. But actually it
was only by MSV.) Before I continue with that song, let me deviate a
bit... One of the finest things that happened to me and my family
at the beginning of this year (Jan 4, 2003) was a visit we made
to Mrs P Suseela's house at Alwarpet and chatting with her for about
1.5 hours. (Hereafter I will refer to Mrs. Suseela simply as 'PS'
to keep the writing informal.) PS was an absolutely wonderful host!
Eventhough my little kids knew nothing of the greatness of that
lady and were talking to her quite casually, PS was very jolly with
them. She was very particular that the kids were at ease and got
what they wanted. The only PS song that my kids knew was 'pachchai
maram ondru'. When my wife mentioned this, PS asked the kids to
sing that song and was appreciating them for that! The whole 1.5
hours we felt we were with some person we had known for a long time!
It was a wonderful visit that we would always remember and cherish! Now, coming back to the song, 'unnai adaindha manam
vaazhga'.. When we met PS, I mentioned about this rare song
to her. She had forgotten that song altogether! But, like an eager
child, she was keen to remember that song and so she asked my
wife to sing it; My wife was absolutely thrilled to sing a rare
PS solo in front of PS herself!! As soon as my wife sang a few
lines, PS remembered the tune and tried singing the song tune
herself without the words. Then she was able to recollect that
song and she said that the song was indeed picturized and was
there in the released version of the movie.. but subsequently
removed later from the movie for some reason! --
