THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, MAY 11. The fifth Kamukara Award for life-
time achievement has been given to the veteran playback singer,
Ms. P. Susheela.
The award, instituted by the Kamukara Foundation, carries a
purse of Rs. 10,000, citation and a statuette designed by Bhattatiri.
It was decided by a jury comprising Mr. M. G. Radhakrishnan
(chairman), Mr. Perumbavoor G. Ravindranath, Dr. K. Omanakutty,
Mr. Ezhacheri Ramachandran and Ms. S. Saraswati Amma.
The prize will be presented to Ms. Susheela by the Union Information
and Broadcasting Minister, Ms. Sushma Swaraj, at a function
at the University Senate Hall on May 26.
The winners of the 2000 State Film Awards for the Best Playback
Singers, Mr. Vidhu Prathapan and Ms. Asha Menon, will also be
honoured. The meeting will be followed by a film music-based
programme.
