P. Susheela who has completed 50 years of playback singing announced her retirement from this field. "Hereafter I will sing only devotional songs and on stage," she said. She feels now it is time for her to spend the rest of her life serving God through her songs.
To felicitate the songstress, the music industry in Chennai turned out in large numbers for the programme Susheela 50. Right from veteran T.M.Soundarajan to Vijay Yesudas turned up to sing along with her. TMS sang the evergreen hit Muthukallo kangal with her while SPB sang Iyarkai ennum illayakanni. Actress Ramyakrishnan danced to the song Ayarathil oruvan which was filmed on Jayalalitha earlier and Divya Unni danced to the song Adal udan paadal ketpadil than sugam. Chinni and Vyapuri did comedy skits. Vairamuthu gave P Susheela the title of Raga rani and her peer Janaki congratulated her on completing 50 years of film playback singing.
