with MKTRaja?s orchestrawas sponsored by ITC Mangaldeep garbathi.
The show had five singers. It was named 5 in 1 because MANGALDEEP
Agarbathis have 5 in 1 pack of agarbathis. So they named the programme
as 5 in 1. Another meaning is 1. SPBalasubrahmanyam 2. P.Suseela
3. S.P.Shailaja 4. Swarnalatha and 5. Malathi Lakshman in one
programme. Singers were introduced in order of seniority. Here
is the list of songs.
1. The show started with the song Chittu Kuruvikkenna (Savaale
Samaali)by P. Susheela. After the song, SPB was introduced. The
anchor of the show, Uma Padmanabhan, mentioned about the 39 years
completion of SPB's career and called him 39 year old SPB on stage.
2. Madai Thiranthu (Nizhalgal)by SPB. This is one of the songs
I wished that he must sing on stage. That 'Paapapapaapaaa'. Was
really cute.
3. Muthumani Maala (Chinna Gounder) by SPB and P.Suseela. Before
he started the song, he told this 5 in one is with this one showing
P.Suseela, "In my early ages, I'll have a fear to sing along
with her". Instantly, P.Suseela said, "Now I fear to
sing with him". Promptly, SPB said, "Maybe because of
my size". Nice rendering by both.
4. Senorita (Johny) by SPB. When he started the first 2 lines
of this song, he pointed his wife in the audience. "Senorita,
I love you. Oh my sweetheart, You love me.?"
5. Aasaya Kathula (Johny) by S.P.Shailaja.
6. Then sindhudhe Vaanam (Ponukku Thanga manasu) by SPB, S.P.Shailaja.
7. Pesakoodathu (Adutha Vaarisu) by SPB and P.Suseela
8. Pakkathu Veettu Paruva Machan (Karpagam) by P.Suseela.
9. Ennulle (Valli) by Swarnalatha. After this song, SPB gave some
info about Mangaldeep and said he's happy to take part in this
show as it's a fund raiser for Spastic society. He said, "I
don't know whether I can sing the following song after this speech".
10. Yeh Aatha (Payanangal Mudivathillai) by SPB. This is one of
the songs in my favourite list.
11. Mathamo Aavani (Utharavindri Ulle Vaa) by SPB, P.Suseela.
Before starting, he said "In those days, when we record,
we had the opportunity to observe the senior singers and learn
a lot from them. But nowadays singers are very unlucky. They cannot
enjoy the singing as recording a song has become very simple without
live orchestra, co-singer".
12. Paruvame ( Nenjathai Killathe) by SPB, Nirmala . SPB told
an info about this song. While Ilayaraja & orchestra thought
what to do to give the shoe sound, one0 senior member in the orchestra
started patting his thighs. The sound came. They did all the way
till the song was recorded. After it's over, they could not stand.
Their thighs were swelled. It took a week for them to recover.
While telling this info, he did the same produced the music. Very
apt and asked the musician in the orchestra to give the sound.
He said, "I wondered when I hear this song for practicing
for this show. What an orchestra!"
13. Inimain niraintha ulagam (Ninaithale Inikkum) by SPB , Malathi.
14. Enna Enna Vaarthaigalo (Vennira Adai) by P.Suseela. After
the song ended, SPB gave a speech aboutt M.S.V. He said, "Here
all are saying that I've recorded more than 36000 songs and insisting
to enter Guinness and some works are also on progress. But I wish
to say onething. M.S.V is the only MD who has composed for more
than 1800 films excluding documentary, private albums etc., Just
films alone. That's an unreachable task." He reminded what
Ilaiyaraaja told abt M.S.V on the very same stage - "We are
the remains of M.S.V".
15. Germaniyin (Ullasa Paravaigal) by SPB, S.P.Shailaja . After
this song, he spoke about the orchestra of the evening and praised
the keyboard player. He said,"This is the first time I'm
working with them. They are excellent". Then the organizer
corrected that that was second time. Then Swarnalatha came for
the next song. She stood a step behind. SPB commented, "Come
to front. Or, you won't be visible to the audience".
16. Povoma Oorgolam (Chinna Thambi) by SPB, Swarnalatha. For the
lyric, Athisayamana Pennthane, he showed his hands towards Swarnalatha
17. Rasave (Murattukkalai) ? S.P.Shailaja
18. Valiyosai (Sathya) by SPB, Jayalakshmi (A budding playback
singer). He introduced her as "My Lata Mangeshkar for today's
show".
19. Kumbida Pona (Thiruppachi) by Malathi, Manoj
20. Vizhiyile Malarnthathu (Bhuvana oru kelvikkuri) by SPB
21. Malare Mounama (Karna) - SPB, S.P.Shailaja. During the lyric,
"Poove Ennai Thallathiru", he dashed his sister. I think
each and every of the audience clapped for the humming?
There was a felicitaion to the artists by the sponsors ITC Mangaldeep
22. Darling Darling(Priya)-P.Suseela.
23. Kadhal Vilayada (Kanmani raja) by SPB, P.Suseela.
24. I forgot the song. After this song, SPB asked P.Suseela to
sing the first line again and admired. After, they had a nice
chat about the age of P.Suseela. It's nice to see P.Suseela ordering
SPB not to disclose her age and SPB readily obeying her with folded
hands. Then P.Suseela asked whether there's age for voice and
asked SPB whether she sang shivering or so. Then she said, "Ippa
enna? Naan unna en paiyannu sollanum. Appadithane?". So nice,
was their interaction.
